Specialty Camps (Grades 2-6)

FaySummer Specialty Camps

Campers entering grades 2-6 who wish to pursue an interest in more depth may sign up for a FaySummer Specialty Camp. FaySummer offers several two-week Specialty Camp programs for campers interested in expanding their Day Camp experience. Designed to be exciting, educational, and fun, all FaySummer Specialty Camps are led by experienced, adult staff with demonstrated expertise in their program area.

FaySummer Specialty Camps offer a half-day focused program coupled with a half-day of FaySummer Day Camp programming, which includes time in the pool, ropes course activities, arts and crafts, archery, and sports and games.

All FaySummer Specialty Camps must have a minimum enrollment to run. If a program has low enrollment, campers will be able to transfer to another Specialty Camp or another FaySummer program.

  • Mega Machines Robotics & Brick City Builders (Gr. 2 & 3)

In week one, students will create motorized vehicles and machines using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 kits. Builders will learn about the basic physics concepts that power mega-sized machines and explore mechanical components such as gears, motion and tilt sensors, pulleys, and cranks. Then, students will use picture-block coding to program their trucks, space rovers, helicopters, sea cleaners and other mega machines on the provided tablets. In week two, students will explore different methods for creating a brick model that is both strong and functional. By designing and planning buildings, bridges, tunnels, and even city transport machines, campers will learn about the importance of collaboration, careful planning, and the physics concepts necessary to build a safe and successful Brick City!

Session 3 (July 22 - August 2)

List of 3 items.

  • Animal Robotics & Superpower Science (Gr. 2 & 3)

During week one, campers create their own animal-inspired robotic models, where they learn about pulley wheels, gear ratio, tilt and motion sensors, combining simple machines, and basic programming. Campers then use picture-block coding to bring their animals to life! In the second week, children learn about the science behind their favorite superheroes' powers. Using LEGO® bricks and base plates in combination with camp games and activities, children explore forces such as lift, thrust, drag, friction, and the aerodynamics of motion.
