Description
The Aquatic Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the summer camp’s aquatics program. This includes managing swimming lessons, free swim, and all pool activities, supervising swim staff, ensuring safety standards are met, and providing a fun and educational environment for campers. The Aquatic Director will be expected to work closely with other camp leadership to integrate the fun camp atmosphere into the experience at the pool, as well as promoting safety, teamwork, and personal development. The Aquatic Director will manage two outdoor heated swimming pools across the eight-week summer program as well as lead aquatic staff training during the week of June 16, 2025.
Key Responsibilities

Program Management:
-
Develop and implement a progressive swimming program which builds on previous years and optimally utilizes the facilities available.

Ensure that all aquatic programs are age-appropriate, fun, and engaging while maintaining a focus on safety.

Organize, schedule, and lead regular swim lessons and free swim times as well as inclement weather activities.

Staff Supervision:
-
Train and supervise a team of approximately ten swim instructors and lifeguards and motivate them to run a best in class aquatic program.

Ensure that staff members are properly trained in water safety, emergency procedures, and the camp's policies.

Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing support and guidance to staff.

Safety & Risk Management:

Enforce all safety protocols and procedures while monitoring weather conditions, making adjustments to activities as needed.

Perform water quality testing in line with state guidelines in collaboration with Fay School facilities staff.

Conduct regular safety drills and maintain all necessary safety equipment (e.g., life jackets, and rescue equipment).

Manage aquatic first aid and emergency response plans.

Facility Management:

Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the two pools and surrounding facility, ensuring it meets all safety and health regulations.

Ensure proper care and storage of camp aquatic equipment, including toys, paperwork, and swimming aids.

Communication & Collaboration:

Collaborate with the camp leadership team to align the aquatics program with the overall camp mission and goals.

Communicate with parents and guardians as necessary, providing updates on camper progress, safety, and activities.

Manage the Swim Report program, ensuring staff write an accurate and helpful swim report for each camper, each session.

Professional Development:

Stay current on best practices in aquatics, water safety, and recreational activities.

Attend training sessions, staff meetings, and other camp related events.
Qualifications
-
Minimum of 21 years of age.
-
Current certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid (preferably including AED).

Previous experience in aquatics programming, waterfront management, or similar roles at a camp or recreational facility.

Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising and training staff.

Knowledge of water safety regulations and risk management practices.

Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.

Excellent communication skills, both with staff and campers.
-
A positive, energetic attitude with a passion for working with children and young adults.

Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the overall camp experience.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Current American Red Cross WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Certification.
-
Three seasons at a summer camp or in a camp leadership role.

Current Certified Pool Operator
-
Previous Aquatic Director experience.
